At Light Automation Academy, we're committed to creating a safe, respectful and high-performing learning environment. This Code of Conduct sets out the standards we expect of all students. By enrolling, you agree to uphold these standards.
1. Core Values
Every student at the Academy is expected to embody these values:
- Respect: Treat instructors, staff, fellow students and visitors with dignity
- Integrity: Act honestly in all academic and personal dealings
- Responsibility: Own your actions, your learning, and your impact on others
- Safety: Follow all safety protocols — your own and others' safety is paramount
- Excellence: Strive for the highest standards in your work
2. Attendance and Punctuality
- Maintain a minimum of 80% attendance throughout your program
- Arrive on time for all classes and practical sessions
- Notify the Academy in advance if you will be absent
- Provide documentation for absences due to illness or emergency
- Persistent lateness or unexplained absences may lead to disciplinary action
3. Academic Integrity
The following behaviours are strictly prohibited:
- Cheating during assessments, tests or examinations
- Plagiarism — presenting another's work as your own
- Unauthorized collaboration where individual work is required
- Falsifying records, attendance, or project documentation
- Sharing assessment questions or answers with other students
Violations may result in assignment failure, program dismissal, or revocation of certification.
4. Professional Conduct
Students are expected to conduct themselves professionally at all times:
- Dress appropriately — business casual for classroom sessions, safety PPE in labs
- Use respectful language in verbal and written communication
- Keep mobile phones on silent during class
- Participate actively and constructively in discussions
- Complete assignments by the due date
- Raise concerns through appropriate channels rather than disrupting class
5. Safety in the Laboratories
Our labs contain industrial equipment that can be dangerous if misused. All students must:
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times
- Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for electrical work
- Only operate equipment after proper training and with instructor supervision
- Report damaged equipment, exposed wiring, or any safety concern immediately
- Know the location of emergency stops, fire extinguishers and first-aid kits
- Never work alone in the labs without authorization
- Adhere to NFPA 70E and other relevant electrical safety standards
Serious safety violations may result in immediate dismissal without refund.
6. Equipment and Property
- Treat all Academy equipment, software, and training materials with care
- Report damage immediately — accidental damage during proper use is expected; careless or willful damage is not
- Do not remove equipment, tools, or materials from the premises without written authorization
- Return all borrowed items in their original condition
- Cost of replacement for willfully damaged or stolen items may be charged to the student
7. Use of Software and Licenses
- Licensed software (TIA Portal, Studio 5000, WinCC, etc.) is for educational use only during your enrollment
- Do not copy, distribute, or install Academy-licensed software on personal devices without authorization
- Respect all software license agreements and intellectual property rights
- Do not install unauthorized software on Academy computers
8. Harassment and Discrimination
The Academy has zero tolerance for harassment, bullying or discrimination of any kind, including on the basis of:
- Gender, sexual orientation or gender identity
- Race, ethnicity, tribe or nationality
- Religion or belief
- Disability or health status
- Age, marital status or socioeconomic background
Any student experiencing or witnessing such behaviour should report it immediately to their instructor, the Academy Manager, or by email to academy@lightautomations.com.
9. Prohibited Conduct
The following actions may result in immediate dismissal:
- Physical violence, fighting, or threats of violence
- Sexual harassment or assault
- Theft of Academy or fellow student property
- Possession or use of illegal drugs on premises
- Consumption of alcohol during class hours or while operating equipment
- Possession of weapons on Academy premises
- Willful destruction of property
- Serious breaches of lab safety endangering others
- Conduct that brings the Academy into disrepute (including on social media)
10. Use of Digital Tools and Social Media
- Represent yourself and the Academy professionally on social media
- Do not share confidential information, proprietary curriculum content, or insider material
- Respect the privacy of fellow students — do not post photos or videos without their consent
- Use Academy-provided email and digital tools only for legitimate purposes
11. Financial Obligations
- Pay all fees according to your agreed payment schedule
- Notify the Academy in advance of any payment difficulty
- Understand that unpaid installments may result in suspension of classes
- Settle any outstanding fees before certification
12. Disciplinary Process
When a violation of this Code is reported, the Academy follows this process:
- Step 1 — Verbal Warning: For minor first-time infractions
- Step 2 — Written Warning: Formal documentation of continued or more serious issues
- Step 3 — Disciplinary Hearing: Student is invited to present their case
- Step 4 — Outcome: May include suspension, dismissal, or required remediation
For serious violations (violence, harassment, theft, major safety breaches), steps may be skipped and immediate dismissal may apply.
13. Appeals
Any student subjected to disciplinary action has the right to appeal:
- Submit a written appeal within 7 days of the decision
- Addressed to the Managing Director at academy@lightautomations.com
- Include your reasons and any supporting evidence
- A decision will be communicated within 14 business days
14. Student Rights
As a student, you have the right to:
- A safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment
- Clear communication about program expectations
- Access to quality instruction and equipment
- Fair and transparent assessment
- Timely feedback on your performance
- Confidential handling of your personal data (see Privacy Policy)
- A fair disciplinary process with right of appeal
15. Acknowledgement
By enrolling at Light Automation Academy, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct throughout your enrollment. Violations may result in disciplinary action as outlined above.
